What's Cooking, Chef?

There is an old vaudeville song that starts out “Hey good lookin’, what you got cookin’? How’s bout cookin’ something up for me?

So what have you got cooking?  What delicious odor fills the air? What’s on the stove and in the oven?  What are you up to?  What’s happening?  What great projects are in the works?  What are you creating?  What are the “Coming Soon” attractions in your business and life?

You might be a bit confused at this point.  Your answer might sound like this: “I’m just working for a living.” OR “I’ve got lots to do a too little time to get it done.” OR “Just a long list of one thing after another.”  Round and round and round we go, and when we stop, nobody knows.  I’ve heard it called the Xerox life, each year a copy of the last one, and the last one, and the last one, and the last one.  Over and over and over and over.  Boring.  Stale.  Nothing innovative.  No excitement. A rut.

STOP!  If you are sick and tired, just stop it.  You are the only one who can stop it.  No one is coming to rescue you.  WAKE UP!  You are in a hypnotic rhythmic trance of mediocrity, and your life is drifting away.

You, my friend, have life.  You were born this morning and given another glorious day.  You are a human being, God’s highest creation, and therefore have the capacity to dream and plan, and then transform those thoughts into amazing outcomes.  You have gifts and undeveloped talents that lie latent below the listless activity of the daily grind.  Astounding untapped potential.  This short message IS your wake-up call.  The alarm clock is ringing.

Today, pull out one of those recipes, and blow the dust off one of those great ideas, and create a plan of action.  Just ignore those voices in your head that tell you such fun and fulfillment is for other people.  If you are a human being, you are qualified.  Wake up and think, and ponder, and consider the possibilities.  Then choose to create an interesting project, something that touches you deeply, something that excites and invigorates you, something that you can commit to and believe in, and then go for it.  Fire up the stove, pull out the cooking utensils, and then create a dinner to remember!

Then the next time someone asks you, “What’s cookin?”, you can hand them the menu and invite them to dinner!
